Downtown Thorold Heritage Tour

About This Tour

Welcome to the Thorold Heritage Tour, where we take you through a small city in the Niagara Region, and discuss just a few key buildings throughout the newly renovated downtown core. There are many quaint restaurants, coffee shops and stores along the route, and we welcome you to take the time to enjoy this small city.

Many people know Thorold as "Where the Ships climb the mountain", although this is true with the canal systems running through the city, most people just follow the canal route and do not venture much into the actual city. The city itself is filled with heritage, appreciation of the heritage in the city is shown through the many historical designations.

Thorold was a town until 1975 when it was declared a town, and has gone through many changes over the years. Specifically the main downtown street in Thorold, Front Street, has been undergoing a facelift with small and large changes. There are many buildings along our route that have played an important role in the settlement of the cities population. Many of these buildings have stayed within the family name, and many were built by important figures in Thorold's history.

Although this tour may be historically focused, we hope you take the time to take in the beauty of the city, including the architecture of the buildings, many of which have remained since being built.
