The Library opened in April of 1912, due to a donation of $10,000 from the its namesake Andrew Carnegie. Andrew Carnegie was a very successful man of his time in the steel industry, and donated millions of dollars over his lifetime. He funded over 1,000 libraries that were built throughout North America and England. At the time the library in Thorold opened it had about 11,000 books on the shelves. The building itself is still a large part of Thorold heritage, it is currently a Seniors home.
