In 1919, Gordon D. Troup opened a drug store on Victoria Avenue. At the time, the street had a sparse population of houses and commercial property, but later development of the area proved his choice of location had been wise. His slogan was "Trade with Troup", and the shop boasted a soda fountain. Gordon served as chair and vice-chair of the Board of Education, and was highly involved in youth sports, particularly basketball. A business was operated in the 1970s by Ernie Hawkins, former Mayor of Niagara Falls.
Loc and Tom Thong, along with John and Mary Tu, reopened the business as Country Fresh Donuts, specializing in won-ton soup. The shop was forced to close on April 7th 2014 after a car smashed through the front window, but opened again later in the year and is still doing a thriving business today.
