The Merchants Bank of Canada, later the Bank of Montreal, first opened on Erie Avenue in 1916. By 1919, the chain had 329 branches from coast to coast. The Erie Avenue branch was moved to this location on Queen Street that year.

Now: [vacant - 2020]

The Bank of Montreal purchased the Merchants Bank chain in 1922. This building served as a BMO branch for the City of Niagara Falls until it was permanently closed in 2018. By 2020, there were only two Bank of Montreal branches at other locations in the city.
