Decew Falls General

The Decew Falls hike is both an amazing hike complemented with numerous waterfalls and the historic morning star mill to discover.

The trail is located in Thorold Ontario and is it about 2 kilometers hike to get to the bottom where you while find a stunning waterfall. The trail head is found at the Morning Star Mill parking area and makes its way down towards the main waterfall. Parking can sometimes be troublesome as it is a high traffic area and prime destination for students and locals seeking adventure.

Recreational Features

This certain trail has Lake Moodie not far from it where locals can be found fishing all year around. You will also find the Morning Star Mill where visitors can enter and discover the history behind this iconic landmark. Once you found yourself at the bottom of the trail you will encounter a small creek that has numerous swimming holes. Finally at the end of the trail one will find the water fall directly underneath the Morning Star Mill where hikers can enjoy a refreshing swim as well as take a moment to appreciate the beautiful scenery. Dogs are welcome in this trail but they must remain leashed at all times.

Historical Attributes

Morning Star Mill:

Built in 1985 by two carpenters from Thorold with wood provided by Wilson Morningstar

The mill was operated to create flour as well as animal feed

Wilson Morningstar seized production around 1930

A volunteer group called Friends of Morningstar Mill started the production of flour once again on Novemeber 1966.

Ecological Attributes

Morningstar mill is powered by a branch of Moodie Lake.

As this is a high traffic area wildlife is harder to come by but there is white tail deer as well as numerous bird species in the area.

This trail is made up of a lot of uneven ground as well as steep hills and rocky areas.
