The Bag O' Nails was situated in Kingly Street at the back of the Liberty store just off and running parallel to and between Regent Street and Carnaby Street. You had to know Kingly Street and the clubs it contains were there or they would be easily overlooked. In sixties London this was one of the THE places to be seen. It was here that Jimi took to the stage on English soil for only the second time when he got up to jam with Brian Auger.
On 15 May 1967, Chas Chandler took photographer Linda Eastman here to see Georgie Fame play. While there, she met Paul McCartney, who had his own private table, for the first time and the rest, as they say, is history.
These days number nine is home to the Miranda Club. The rest of the street is slowly being regenerated, with brash fashion outlets spreading from Camaby Street brightening things up after many years of the street looking very down at heel.
