The Butterfly Conservatory is a self guided experience through a tropical paradise full of vegetation and over 2000 free flying butterflies for visitors to befriend. They will also have the chance to watch them hatch, dry out their wings and begin their lives.
The Butterfly Conservatory consists of a self-guided walking tour while viewing over 2000 butterflies from 45 different species. The tour starts with a short video presentation and ends at the emergence window where visitors can watch butterflies take their first flight.
Located on the grounds of the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens. Butterflies are imported from tropical regions worldwide. %60 of the butterflies here come from Costa Rica, El Salvador and the Philippines. The other 40% are raised in a greenhouse behind the Conservatory.

Importance Within NPC
The Butterfly Conservatory is very important to the Niagara Parks Commission as it offers up close and personal education on the life span of butterflies which are crucial to our ecosystem as pollinators. The Conservatory also offers hands on experience with native species such as the monarch butterfly where visitors can tag and release their own monarch butterflies on their way to migrating to Mexico. Hands on experience like this can get all ages alike involved in education. The NPC values this place not only because of education, but also the fact that they are working to preserve native and tropical species of butterflies alike.
