Sir Isaac Brock is well known in the area for defending Niagara at the battle at Queenston Heights in the War of 1812. He was also widely known for his success in Fort Detroit where he led a battalion of 300 men and 530 First Nations people. Fort Detroit fell to the British and Brock became recognized as a hero. Major General Sir Isaac Brock was killed by a sniper bullet on October 13th, 1812. While leading his last charge at the Battle of Queenston Heights, he proclaimed, "Surgite!" which is Latin for "Push on!". This term would later be designated as Brock University's motto. Isaac Brock's remains are held below his monument at Queenston Heights in Queenston, Ontario.
Our technology can work to represent these heroic battles that Sir Isaac Brock led against the Americans. From the personal perspective of Brock himself, we can create a monologue depicting his actions and motives during the battles he participated in. A dialogue of what the implications might have been if he were to have failed can also be a topic of discussion here.
The statue sitting stoutly in front of the Schmon Tower at Brock University arrived in 2015. It took a 4000 km trip from Oregon, where it was originally created. Sitting in at around 4.6 metres in height and almost 1.5 metric tons in weight, the statue has made its place at the forefront of the University being the first thing visitors see before they enter the school. Students and faculty gathered the morning of March 16th, 2015 to celebrate the installation of the new statue. They clapped and cheered as the statue was lowered into place on its pedestal.
The statue was crafted by Danek Mozdzenski, a Canadian artist who won a competition for a million-dollar commission from Brock University. The competition was to decide out of 72 sculptors, whose design would be standing at the forefront of the University. David S. Howes, a businessman and philanthropist at Brock University agreed to contribute to the cost, which was the driving force behind the creation of this statue.
