DeCew Fall is adjacent to Morningstar Mill and the Bruce Trail. There are benches and tables for people to picnic in the area. It's a great place for families and friends. There are fences around the falls, which is great if there are children or pets around.
The upper falls is a pretty plunge waterfall. This upper falls can be view from above, next to the Mill entrance. For a better view you may hike down the Bruce Trail / Laura Secord Legacy Trail and see the plunge pool and both levels of the waterfall.
Lower DeCew Falls has a height of 8 metres. It is in a more wild and remote setting than the upper falls.
The Bruce Trail / Laura Secord Legacy Trail passes right by the waterfall, and makes it the perfect spot for hikers to enjoy hiking and the view of DeCew Falls. If you continue to follow the Bruce Trail along the edge of the escarpment, you are able to see the DeCew Hydroelectric Power Station. Also, the Decew Water Treatment Plant is immediately east of the DeCew Falls entrance.
This waterfall was formed 450 million years ago after the Niagara Escarpment was created. It was formed from the tropical sea bed compressed into limestone and shale that comprise the escarpment. Today the upper falls plunges 22 metres and the lower falls has a height of 8 metres.
The Niagara Escarpment is home for over 1500 species of vascular plants, and is home for many other wildlife species.
