Grimsby Forty Mile Creek Tour 1 - Beamers Falls

Beamer's Falls is the Forty Mile Creek's entryway to Grimsby, where it arrives in style down a beautiful staircase waterfall. In the winter, the snow piled on the rocks makes for a picturesque river scene, while the greens of spring and summer or the multitudes of colors in the fall make for a breathtaking nature view. The Forty Mile Creek runs under a small road bridge where the falls begin, where there is a small parking lot and foot trails between the brush to allow visitors to peer directly into the gorge above the waterfall. Alternatively, visitors can park at the Beamer Memorial Conservation Area and take a short, flat trail walk to the falls.

From either the Ridge Road parking lot or the Beamer Memorial Conservation Area lot, there are many linked hiking trails, including connections to the Bruce Trail. The Conservation Area also features a hawking tower, seasonal washroom facilities, and several grassy fields for sports or picnics.

Beamer's Falls and the Forty Mile Creek, and the trails surrounding them, originated from the First Nations Peoples who lived on the land now considered to be the town of Grimsby.

This area around the Forty Mile Creek on top of the Escarpment is well-known as an important birding location from early March to mid-May, specifically for hawks but also for bald eagles and turkey vultures as well. The Niagara Escarpment as a whole is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve and has the oldest forested ecosystem in eastern North America!

The Beamer Memorial Conservation Area was acquired by the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority in 1964.

While the trails surrounding the Beamer Memorial Conservation Area are quite flat and wide, they are still dirt paths with the occasional rock or root protruding, requiring moderate walking ability to navigate safely. The small bush trails leading to the edge of Beamer's Falls are narrow and rocks, requiring attention and moderate walking skill.
