Montebello Park is known to be an iconic and historic Park in St. Catharines. Owned by the Merritt family this land was going to be a place where William Merritt Jr. would build his home on one portion of the Park. However after the death of William Merritt Jr. the land was unused and closed of for over two decades.
As time passed the remaining of the Merritt family allowed the locals to use a part of the park for recreation activities.
The City purchased the land in 1887 and is now known to be the first Park of St.Catharines.
During the summers couples and locals would gather at Montebello Park for picnics.
Many major events were also held at the park even today The Grape and Wine festival and Gay Pride are held here.
The Bandshell located on the park grounds is placed in the honour of Former Mayor T. Roy Adams who was a great musical inspiration in the city of St.Catharines.
