Then: YMCA Railway Barracks

Soldier's Barracks adjoining the Railroad YMCA Building on River Road, World War I.

In this historic postcard, two buildings are visible. The barracks were erected during the First World war for soldiers who were guarding bridges across the Niagara River. They decided to build close to the Railway YMCA, built in 1898, so that the soldiers could use the showers and recreational facilities located there.

Now: Ramada Niagara Falls By The River

The Railway YMCA was demolished in 1936. Today, the Ramada Niagara Falls by the River can be found at this site.
