Niagara Falls got its first five and dime store in August, 1916 when F. W. Woolworth opened a store on Queen Street. Generations of Niagarans can still fondly remember childhood days spent in Woolworth's where many treasures and toys could be had for just a few pennies.
Sharing the building with Woolworths was Kresge's, which opened in 1932. Opening day featured many bargains, including men's socks for 10 cents, women's lipstick for 15 cents and glavanized tubs for 25 cents. Over the years, the head office of S.S. Kresge Co. Ltd developped a new merchandising strategy built around their larger K-Mart stores, and the Queen Street Kresge closed its doors in 1972.
Today, Qube Escape Rooms Niagara and the Backyard Axe Throwing League can be found in this historic building.
