JH x26 Carnaby Street W1F 9QG

Some sources claim that Track Records had their offices here in the heyday of the street, but we have found no evidence to corroborate this. For the documented homes of Track see Old Compton Street (entry 68) and W ardour Street (entry 69). There is no doubt that in the sixties Carnaby Street was the domain of the young and trendy. Along with King's Road, Chelsea (entry 91), it was the place to see and be seen, a place to rub shoulders with the movers and shakers of the time. As is the way with many things, for years later it was packed with tourist traps and grot shops. The street has now been cleaned up and has become a haven for young people of independent means, being packed with expensive designer shops for the would-be trendy. It always looks nice at Christmas, though!
