On 11 January 1967, Jimi Hendrix signed to Track Records at New Action Productions' offices. At the time this was the London base of Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp. The Jimi Hendrix Experience would have the honour of the first single and album on the new label. This building was so named because it also housed the headquarters of Radio Caroline, the premier and best known pirate radio station in the days before British broadcasting opened up to provide the music that young people wanted. Radio Caroline established the format that BBC Radio 1 would follow.
