The Welland Canals Center's elevated observation platform lets visitors see ships traveling through the Welland Canal as they navigate Lock 3 on their way through the St. Lawrence Seaway System. Visitors may see the ships climb the Niagara Escarpment from this observation platform.
Experience the canal's historic creation through a 15-minute video mini-documentary and through a multitude of museum exhibits. The Lockview Lounge on the second floor offers a great view in comfortable surroundings so that visitors may experience firsthand the Welland Canal, this feature is nice for colder weather viewing.
The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Center offers areas for picnic for families as well as a recreational playground. An observation deck is available for visitors that wish to watch the ships that pass by Lock 3. Various activities and events are held such as the segway tour. For those that wish to tour the Welland Canal in full, a biking or walking trail is accessible for said individuals.
A public historical museum whose purpose is to acquire, preserve, research, exhibit and interpret artifacts and archival records, along with their associated information, relative to the history of St Catharines and the Welland Canals for the education and enjoyment of the public
The museum has both permanent and temporary exhibits. Galleries feature the Welland Canals, Community Heritage, and travelling exhibits. Special theme areas have been developed about the Military, Transportation, Industry, Sports, and the African-Canadian heritage of St Catharines. An Archives incorporates collections of Library holdings, photographs, maps, plans, and municipal, corporate and personal papers dating back to the late-19th century.
The Museum is also home to the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum, a separate gallery showcasing the history of lacrosse.
