Introduction

Botanical Gardens, a home to various kinds of plants, is a famous attraction in Niagara region. it also served as the outdoor classroom for students who are in the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture. It is a great place for children to run around in nature, to smell flower scents and close to natural plants.



 


 


 


 

General Description

Botanical Gardens was founded in 1936. It includes a diverse collection of natural plants, including perennials, rhododendrons, azaleas, a formal parterre gardens, herb and vegetable plantings. A well-known rose garden is situation in Botanical Gardens, containing over 2,400 roses. There is no admission fee for Botanical Gardens. However, visitors have to pay for the parking space. It is recommended that visitors can download a free app of Botanical Gardens, which allows visitors follow the tour or voice guide when visiting. Children might be interested in carriage tour in Botanical Gardens. Visitors can experience carriage tour from May to mid-October each year. Besides, wedding ceremonies are welcome in Botanical Gardens. In Botanical Gardens, children can learn about plant species, and their consciousness of natural conservation will be strengthened. Moreover, snake bar is available. There are a lot of flower displays held in Botanical Gardens, such as Spring Flowering Bulbs, Japanese Flowering Cherries and Carpet Bedding Displays.

Historical Features

Originally, the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture was named the Niagara Park Commission Training School for Apprentice Gardeners. It was founded in 1936. In 1959, it was renamed. In 1990, the school was renamed Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture. In 1993, there was a long-term master plan. In 1996, the commission spent $34 million to build a new greenhouse facility and Butterfly Conservatory which located on the grounds of Botanical Gardens.

Ecological Attributes

Botanical Gardens has a diverse collection of natural plants which includes perennials, rhododendrons, azaleas, a formal parterre garden, herb and vegetable plantings. It is a home to over 2,400 roses as well.
