Historical Attributes

Niagara-on-the-Lake has a long history which can be traced back into 1781. It was the historic site of the old Neutral Indian Village of Onghiara. Niagara-on-the-Lake plays an important role in the history of Niagara region. Many African-Americans' first taste of freedom occurred in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Niagara-on-the-Lake contains the stock of Regency and Classical Revival buildings which regarded as the best in the country during 1812 period. It is a National Historic Site of Canada. There are a lot of sites nearby which are important for the history, such as Fort George and Fort Mississauga.
