Introduction

Bird Kingdom is a wonderful aviary located near the Niagara Falls, is a place full of energy and will offer visitors an interesting experience. The site was built as part of museum and part of zoo. There is numerus of animals that people can get up close to them, people can see kinds of birds flying about.

General Description

Bird Kingdom is the world's largest free-flying Indoor aviary and opened in May 2004. Bird Kingdom can be seen as a mini zoo, but they have more birds inside the zoo rather than other animals. In the site, there are about 350 birds and the majority of birds come from Austria, South America, and Africa.

The site had exhibits geared towards local history and several floors to be explored. Visitors can discover hundreds of tropical birds if they are following the direction path and walk around the site. There are also some cool animals such as snakes, turtle, fish and iguanas.

There are two floors having a bird flying around the room. In the second floor of the bird kingdom, there are many small birds inside the room. Also, on the third floor, there is a multi-level rainforest which called Lost Kingdom and the main aviary curved down from the third floor to the ground floor. There are a lot different species of birds are waiting for the visitors and yet also give the birds privacy if they needed. Many large birds just walk around the place casually sharing walkways with the people. In designed area, visitors will get the opportunity to feed the animals under employees' instruction.The place is immaculate inside, employees are feeding bird and clean birds' dropping all the time.

There is an elevator which will help disabled people to access and also help other visitors connect all floor. There is one more thing need to be mentioned is that, in every floor of the Bird Kingdom, there are plenty of places people can sit and enjoy the birds.

This beautiful attraction is located beside the Niagara Falls and open all year. It will bring an exciting adventure experience for all ages. Please bring a camera to explore these exotic birds and animals when close in their natural habitats.

Bird Kingdom offers many opportunities for schools and groups for ages. There are two options for them to choose; the first is guided tour, this option normally takes a minimum 20 minutes for the guided tour. This guided tour will give students or other visitors a deeper understanding of this attraction because a knowledgeable interpreter will lead them to explore. The other option is a self-guided tour, visitor can walk through the bird Kingdom at their own pace. It is no time limit for the self-guided tour in the Bird Kingdom. Through the student educational programs, student will develop a good sense of appreciation for the natural environment and find out how they can help conserve the world.

Recreational Features

There are seven experience that people can get in the Bird Kingdom that people can visit, and they are main aviary, small bird aviary, animal encounter, Lorikeet Feeding, Might Jungle, Ancient Javanese House, Old museum and its plants and gardens in the site. At first people enter the Bird Kingdom, they will see some historical photos and artifacts about Niagara Falls. Then, visitor will walk into a room and they will see some birds in the cages. In this area, visitors will see many parrots with different sizes and color stands on the tree. Employees will put one parrot on people's arm and take picture for them. Then, people will go into a room with plenty bird that flies above people's heads. Also, there are some turtles and other animals living together with birds. In the last place which is the most exciting site in Bird Kingdom is called Lost Kingdom. In this area, visitors will see many kinds of bird with beautiful fur. People have opportunity to play with them and get an up-close look at these birds such as friendly parrots and exotic animals. In Lost Kingdom, visitors, especially kids or teenagers can go in a room and hold more birds on their body at the same time to have fun with birds. Meanwhile, there is a part called Night Jungle, it is home to curious owls, bats, and other scary creatures such as big spiders.

Historical Attributes

The current location of the bird kingdom was belonging to Spirella Corset Factory. This building was built-in 1907 and it is one of the first poured concrete building built-in Canada. The company manufactured made-to-measure corsets and also had many factories in the United States, Sweden and United Kingdom. After that, the building became the new home of the Niagara Falls Museum in 1958. The collection in the museum was Canada's oldest collection which originally founded by Thomas Barnett of Birmingham, England in 1865. The Niagara Falls Museum was the famous collection of Egyptian artifacts. That is because they discovered the museum is home to the actual mummy of King Ramesses I for over 140 years. In 2003, professionals safely returned the mummy after the museum closed. In 2000, this building was extended and adds additional 50,000 square feet to build this aviary. The building was honored with heritage recognition and it can maintain the original architectural style of this historic building in the extension plans. Bird Kingdom opened two years later instead of the Niagara Falls Museum. The number of birds is increasing since Bird Kingdom was opened, now it is home to over 400 free flying birds and other species inside the aviary.

Ecological Attributes

Bird Kingdom as the biggest indoor free flying aviary in the North America, it provides a place to show many bird species and bring an opportunity to young kids to see amazing bird and get close to other animals. It also provides a great opportunity to brid professionals to observe some unique bird species in Bird Kingdom.
