For this stop we will be taking a detailed look into Canada's first and only teaching brewery. Equipped with a state of the art facility this teaching brewery is keen to bring you some of the most unique and independently prepared brews the Niagara region has to offer.
Prepared and harvested by students themselves this brewery offers the most educational perspective on the brewing process of them all. Tucked right into the Niagara campus this microbrewery is perfect for a quick and educational pit stop soaking up all the information and beer you could ever ask for !
At Niagara College Teaching Brewery you can get a wide selection of beers to choose from. Niagara College Brewery Teaching has beers created by the students in the brewing program at Niagara College. These are called the one off or small batches. Here students are looking for adventurous beer drinkers to test their latest creations. Fruit beer, amber ale, IPA, and lagers can all be found here in rotation as the students aim to create their distinct flavour. While all steps of the brewing process are important for flavour. The first step of the brewing process is where most of the flavour comes from. This first step is called mashing. In this step the brewer selects the grains that will give the beer its base flavour. The grains are then crushed up together, germinated, then toasted to a desired point. Depending on how toasted the malt is will effect on how dark your beer will turn out. Once the malts are selected they are then mixed into a kettle with boiling water. After the malt is steeped enough in the boiling water it is then strained through cheesecloth so that only the water is left. Once the water is clear this is what will be used as the baser flavour of your whole beer.
