Breweries are always finding new ways to spice up their beer. The Oast House keeps mixing it up by adding new interesting flavours to their draft. One of their most interesting drafts is their Chocolate Mint Stout. Flavours such as chocolate are added to the beer during the fermentation process. There are also several different ways to add chocolate since it comes in many different forms. The most common way to add the chocolate flavour is to melt chocolate down and add it to the fermenting beer. The yeast in the fermenting process will eat away at all of the sugars from the chocolate, leaving just the cocoa flavour. Another Way to add a chocolate flavour is to add Cocoa powder or cocoa nibs directly to the kettle. This increases the amount of time needed in the kettle as the fat content takes a while to dissolve evenly into the rest of the draft. Cocoa nibs give the most intense flavour as they are raw cocoa beans that have been toasted.
