Construction on the 11 storey, 37 metre tall "Park Plaza Hotel tower" began in 1986. The building took close to 12 years to complete, and was finally opened in 1998. During its stint as a hotel, it also operated under the "Quality Inn Hotel and Conference Centre" banner. A restaurant, East Side Mario's, was later added to the front of the property, but that restaurant franchise moved to Fallsview Boulevard in the late 2000s.
The Ferry Street restaurant property changed hands several times, operating as "Cactus Flats Restaurant and Bar" in the late 2000s, as "Kool Katts Restaurant Bar and Night Club" around 2012, as the "Old Fashioned Family Restaurant" in 2013, and as "Hill Side Bar and Grill" in 2014.
In 2015, after extensive renovations, both the 11 storey hotel building and the restaurant in front became home to the Emerald Retirement Residence, a privately operated senior's residential complex.
