The building at 6032 Main Street was constructed (minus the storefront) some time before 1845, by John Evans. It was used as a hotel, known as either "The Exchange", or "The Evans Hotel".
Stamford Township Council meetings were held at the hotel from 1850 until 1874, when the Township Hall on Ferry Street was opened.
John Evans died in 1872, but his widow continued to operate the hotel for a number of years. In 1876, the business was described as "very respectable, well conducted, and a favourite resort for travellers."
Later, this building became the residence of a Doctor Boulter, as well as a hardware store. The storefront was added early in the 20th century, and for many years the building was the home of Reid's Food Market.
The building was then taken over by Davey Automotive and Industrial Supplies, before becoming the home of the Petrullo Floral Design Studio.
