Decew Falls is a huge part of Thorold's history. The waterfall which is located below the mill, is a place
tourists, students, and locals continue to visit. The two waterfalls located there are called the upper and
lower Decew Falls. There are several trails in which you can take to explore the falls, some shorter and
some longer.
A user by the name of Wolfmaan visited the locked off tunnel and stated that "The walls felt cool to the
touch and slimy, and we could smell a musty mildew-like smell which is common in areas like this.
Heading deeper into the old tunnel we could see something reflecting in our torches up ahead. The
tunnel got wider at one point, then narrowed again. The walls in some areas were covered in rust
coloured slime with water slowly dripping off them to form stalactites on the ceiling".
Hiking trails
The stone mill, built in 1872 for the purpose of blacksmithing and carpentry, was rebuilt after it was
destroyed in a fire taking place in 1895.

Details : | 24 hours. Please be cautious and always travel with a partner as the trail is very steep. |
"The gorge is extremely steep and therefore great caution must be taken. The waterfall can be viewed
safely from the top. When hiking in the area, travel in pairs rather than alone, and always stick to the
trail. An accidental fall may result in serious injury or death. Be wary that the area around the falls may
be slippery and wet. Also be aware of falling rocks from above."
