Fort George was a British military post that defended upper Canada from attacks by America. The fort saw lots of action in the war of 1812, it was taken over by the Americans and as the retreated they burned the entire town to the ground leaving many of the townspeople and soldiers without shelter causing many fatalities. The fort is said to be haunted by the prominent ghost of "The Woman in the Mirror" a young woman dressed in 19th century clothing haunting the officers' quarters. This scenic location on the tour provides an excellent place to take photos and feel the chilling presence of the soldiers that perished in the wars. You may find reenactments taking place in the fort, as well as have a chance to wield and fire a musket. This destination provides an opportunity to truly delve into the history of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Tourist may also find ghost walks occuring seasonally, for more in depth tales of the paranormal residents.

Originally built in 1796 the fort was a major position in the war of 1812. After being taken over by the Americans the fort was destroyed as they retreated. In 1820 the fort was abandoned due to its partial reconstruction after the war. The Canadian Military used the Fort as a hospital for Camp Niagara. In the 1930s the fort was reconstructed using the original plans.
