The building in which Corks Wine bar and Eatery is located had been housing a pub known as the "Buttery" since after the war of 1812 when it would serve sailors as they waited for their goods to be transferred off their boats and on to land. It has been home to many residents over the years, some of which lurk till this day, others which have supposedly passed on after an exorcism had been performed.
The bistro has a wonderful selection of alcohol and food, on the main dining floor it is wonderfully lively with many folks enjoying their meals and conversations. However, the stairs up to the second floor are filled with paranormal tales. With a stage and seating to take in live performances, this is where you will feel the somber discomfort in the air.
The second floor of the bistro building is where a prominent doctor in the 1850s was caught by his wife while suffocating his disabled son, apparently out of shame as he could not cure him. When she screamed he turned to see her standing by the stairs holding a meal, panicked he knocked the tray from her hands. Losing her balance, she tripped backwards down the stairs to her death. The doctor covered up his murders by writing certificates of death excusing his murders to his sons' condition and the grief of losing her son. It is said the ghost of the doctor continues to haunt the building.
The building in which the Corks Wine Bar and Eatery is operated originally was opened as a restaurant after the war of 1812, as a resting place for sailors to wait while they had their goods transferred from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie.
