A Brief History

St. Saviour Anglican Church is dedicated to Major General Sir Isaac Brock, whose monument stands tall in Queenston Heights Park. Reverend Brooke Bridges Stevens established the parish in 1817, 5 years after Brock's death at the Battle of Queenston Heights. The first church for the parish was built sometime between 1817-1820, but was struck by lightning around 1840. It was replaced by the current St. Saviour Church in 1879. On October 9th, 1977, the parish celebrated its 160th anniversary, where notable figures such as Archbishop E. W. Scott, Anglican Primate of Canada, made appearances and dedicated the plaque shown above describing the history of St. Saviour. The dedication of the "bronze historical plaque noting in brief the history of the church" was referenced in a news article titled "Church members will mark 160th anniversary of parish". The article highlighted the importance of the presence of the Anglican Primate of Canada at the proceedings, as well as the history of the church and its ties to the colonial founding of Canada (1977).
