Zappi's Tomato Truck

When walking or driving down the busy Stanley Avenue in Niagara falls, you will come across a vintage pickup truck with a giant statue of a tomato sitting in the cargo bed. It sits outside an Italian eatery called Zappi's Pizza and Pasta.

The name of the restaurant with the tomato truck

The tomato has a huge smile, and the truck is painted with lots of little details including small leaves along the truck's side, and the restaurant's logo. There are also black and white images stuck to the inside of the windows to make it look like someone is driving the truck. The right side shows the Pope, and the left side shows Queen Elizabeth II in the driver's seat. Lastly, there are signs beside the tomato and the back of the truck that read "Authentic pizza, pasta, wings, kid's meals, subs" and "Zappis.com" to advertise the restaurant.

Previous Years

Zappi's Pizza and Pasta has occupied several different locations throughout the past several decades, and the tomato truck has gone with them to each new restaurant. In the Google Street View from August 2013, the truck can be seen with a blue coat of paint but the same tomato and signage. The company's logo is a cartoon of this blue version of the truck.

The Business

This company was established in 1971 by Connie and Tony Zappitelli, and quickly grew to have several locations across Niagara Falls before the founders retired in 1986. In 2002, their son, Albert Zappitelli, set out to rekindle the business, and opened the store where it currently resides on Stanley Avenue in the heart of the Niagara Falls tourist district. They are known for their pizza, but they also offer subs, calzones, pasta, and much more. To see their menu, order takeout, or to make a reservation, visit their website here!

Street View of the Tomato Truck

This street view of the tomato truck was taken in July, 2019. At this time the tomato truck was just sitting on the grass, but it has since been moved to a gravel parking pad.
