Memorial Park was established in 1919 by the Board of Trustees of the Public Schools of the Town of Thorold, who purchased the land. Memorial Park is a memorial for the Thorold residents who died fighting in World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. It is a beautifully kept park with many trees, foliage, memorial statues, and memorial plaques that enshrine the names of all the fallen soldiers. There is a very melancholic feeling as you walk around the park, taking in the beauty of nature and seeing all the names of the soldiers who were all at one point in their lives a part of the Thorold community.
Every year Memorial Park hosts a ceremony on November 11th (Remembrance Day), commemorating all the soldiers who fought and lost their lives for this country. It is a beautiful precession involving veterans from the Thorold community as well as Thorold residents. It is a great sign of respect, and Memorial Park is the perfect place to host the ceremony.
Memorial Park is owned by the Board of Trustees of the Public Schools of the Town of Thorold, and maintained by the City of Thorold's Parks and Recreation Department. They are in charge of keeping the park well-kept and beautiful to the standard that not only allows showcasing the natural beauty of the park, but also the memorial itself.
