C. Wallace and Company informally opened a dry goods store on Queen Street, at the corner of St. Clair Avenue. Wallace's occupied the bottom floor, and the upper level housed other businesses of the "Russnell Block". In 1950, they took over the entire building, moving the home furnishings department up from the basement to the second floor and enhancing the china and linens inventory. The clothing line was also expanded.
The Wallace Company, which owned several stores in Niagara Falls, St. Catharines and Simcoe, was purchased by Potter and Shaw of St. Catharines in 1971. By 1973, it was announced that the Queen Street location would be closing. Wallace's went into receivership in 1976. The Niagara Falls Community Health Centre is based there today.
