General Information
Every year in Niagara, thousands of tonnes of grape pomace the seeds and skins left in the press during the winemaking process are discarded. Some of it is returned to the vineyards as compost, some is hauled away to landfill sites. And some of this so-called waste material is collected by Dr. Joseph Pohorly, a noted innovator in the Niagara Region, to make all-natural, cold pressed grape seed oil. It is a non-burning cooking oil that can be purchased at the boutique.
Located north of the Niagara Escarpment, Joseph's Estate Wines offers visitors winery tours, a stocked boutique and tastings of their award-winning VQA wines. Private tours are available upon request.
