General Information

The Niagara Military Museum is located on Victoria Avenue in Niagara Falls. It was officially opened on November 3, 2012.

The museum was constructed to increase awareness of one segment of Canadian history – the time period around World War I, World War 2 and the Korean War. This includes the efforts of soldiers who fought and the men and women on the home front who supported them.

The Niagara Military Museum displays a wide variety of items including artifacts from the Navy, Army and Air Force. Air Force badges, uniforms, helmets, gas masks, flight suits, rifles, and emergency equipment are just some of the items on display. The museum offers visitors the opportunity to try on military uniforms and learn about life during the war times through newspaper clippings and photographs. A WW2 Flight Simulator known as the Link Trainer is also being rebuilt and will become a functional part of the display.

Historical

The Niagara Military Museum occupies a 98-year-old building which up until 1999 belonged to Canada's Department of National Defense. The City of Niagara Falls bought the building when it was decommissioned in 2004 for $2. It was the temporary home of the Niagara Falls Historical Museum while their building was undergoing an expansion.

The building honors the military history of Niagara and those who fought overseas for Canada in primarily the First, Second and Korean Wars. All of the funds were raised by volunteers, both veterans and others. Over two years $23,500 was collected and hundreds of artifacts were donated by private donors and the 483 Wing Royal Canadian Air Force Association (RCAFA).
