The Howard House sits on a plot of land originally granted by The Crown to Samuel Crowine in 1803. The land was then given to Jacob Beam Jr., who sold the property for about 5 pounds per quarter acre in 1847 so that it could be used for the building of a school.

The red brick schoolhouse grew larger in 1859 and was later converted into a residential building with the addition of a summer kitchen area.

In 1935 the building was bought by a local merchant named Walter Howard, and was passed to his son, who stayed in the house until 1988, when it was sold to the Town of Lincoln.

It is currently being used as the Adult Learning & Resource Center for Niagara West. The building still retains its hardwood floors and some of its original window sills and baseboards.
