General Information

From the elevated viewing platform at Lock 3, get a close-up look at ships from around the world and experience the wonder of the Welland Canal. Inside, watch the 15 minute video presentation Welland Canals Past and Present and learn more about the four Welland Canals in the St. Catharines Museum exhibits and education programs. The Museum chronicles the industrial, cultural and social history of the area with an emphasis on the Welland Canal.

Experience the rich legacy of Niagara's African Canadians in the integrated Follow the North Star exhibit. The role that St. Catharines played in the Underground Railroad is the main theme of the exhibit.

Learn about Canada's oldest sport in the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame & Museum.

Visit Merritt's Mercantile - the Museum Gift Shop for unique gifts and souvenirs.

Library and Archives Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm Viewing Bridge open for 24 hours throughout the year. Last Week of December - End of March the canal is closed for repairs and maintenance - therefore there are no ships passing!

Directions

Bicycle: We're conveniently located on the Welland Canals Parkway recreational trail, which runs parallel to the Welland Canals Parkway . Local Transit: There is currently no local transit service to the St. Catharines Museum, however, you can take St. Catharines Transit Bus #18 (Secord Woods). Get off at corner of Dunvegan and Woodrow. Follow Dunvegan to Pic Leeson Park. Follow path from soccer field to the Welland Canals Parkway (formerly Government Road). Motor Vehicle: We're conveniently located 5 minutes off the QEW and 15 minutes from both Niagara Falls and the historic town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. From Toronto: Niagara east bound over the Garden Skyway QEW exit 38A Glendale Avenue Glendale (west) through the lights at Taylor Road Cross the Glendale Avenue Welland Canal Vertical Lift Bridge Right on Welland Canals Parkway Right into Welland Canals Centre parking lot From Niagara Falls, New York: Cross the Rainbow Bridge Follow the signs to Hwy 420 Take the QEW towards Toronto QEW exit 38 Glendale Avenue Left on Glendale Avenue at the lights Follow Glendale Avenue and directions above

Welland Canals Centre at Lock 3 Free Welland Canals Past and Present video (per person) - $1.00 (GST exempt) St. Catharines Museum at Lock 3 Adults - $4.25, Seniors (60 years+) - $4.00 Students (over 14) - $3.25, Children (6-13) - $2.50 (all rates include 6% GST) Family Discount - 15% Members are complimentary, except for specially ticketed events. Children five years and under admitted free. Welland Canals Past and Presentvideo no charge if you purchase a museum pass.
