Indian Council House

Introduction

Established in 1797, the old Indian Council House was used by the British Indian Department at Fort George, near the area now known as Butler's Barracks (Parks Canada, 2015). A 'Council of Condolence' which was held for General Brock at the Indian Council House on November 6, 1812 (Hill, 2012). In 1822, the buildings were converted into a garrison hospital (Parks Canada, 2015). The first Indian Council House was demolished or destroyed by 1828 (Anishinabek News, 2014).
