Conclusion of the Battle of Lundys Lane

Since the conclusion of the War of 1812 there has been much debate about who won the Battle of Lundy's Lane, July 25, 1814. While the Americans were able to capture the artillery and high-ground on that fateful night, they were unable to hold the heights and the weapons. Their withdrawal to the safety of Chippawa, and then further to Fort Erie, began the ultimate withdrawal of American troops from the Niagara Peninsula.

The movement back to Chippawa, and beyond, as well as the burning of Bridgewater Mills and the bridge into Chippawa, are some of the reasons why the Battle of Lundy's Lane can be described as a British victory and could be described as a British strategic victory.
