General Description


Rodman Hall is a historic Victorian style home originally owned by Thomas Rodman Merritt who was born in Mayville, New York and passed away in St Catharine's in 1906. Brock University has maintained the hall since 2003 preserving its stunning appearance and has remained an art gallery for the past 20 years. Rodman Hall is located just outside the downtown core on 109 St. Paul Street overlooking the majestic Twelve Mile Creek that runs through St Catharine's. The hall has been around for a hundred and fifty-six years. Rodman Hall prides its self on works from a local artist from the region and also culture workers of Southern Ontario. This gallery has over a thousand art pieces in their permanent collection including drawings, prints, sculpture and more. The gallery performs a number of events ranging from DJ and rave culture, viewing an electro-acoustic, acousmatic soundscape performance to Rodman halls continuous Up Close In Motion an exhibition displaying Rodman Halls extensive collection.


Recreational Features

Rodman Hall is a unique site to visit as it holds many amazing pirces of art but as well holds events for the public to engage in. Rodman Hall has their own personalized tours such as the Exhibitions and Histroic Home Tours. They also have personal tour groups where groups of 10 or more people can request an appointment; these tours typically last from one to two hours. Additionally, the Walker Botanical Garden at Rodman Hall is located on site and hold many events for the public. Recently, they had the Echo event which is a site specific sound performance where they strip back the layers of history from DJ and rave culture.

Ecological Attributes

The Walker Botanical Gardens allows for the Rodan Hall to have ecological attributes and displays the sustainable environment that Rodman is trying to encompass. The wide range of exotic trees, well-kept lawns, fountains, and borders with a terraced garden. Additionally, a display greenhouse was built, an extensive kitchen garden and an orchard that has stayed maintained to portray and display a sustainable garden.


Ownership and Management

Brock University manages and runs Rodman Hall. They provide classes to students at Brock University to learn in the building and be alongside the many pieces of artwork. This engages a cultured classroom. Additionally, it allows students to learn and study in a historical building.
