General Description

13th Street Winery is a stunning winery located just outside of the city's limits at 1776 Fourth Ave, St Catharine's, ON. This winery originally opened in 1998 by the Mann family and the Whitty's. Whitty farms have been farming since 1908 and the Whitty's established 13th Street Winery in 1998. 13th Street based out of a renovated century-old farmhouse surrounded by a unique landscape and stunning art, allowing customers to experience a comfortable inviting atmosphere. Doug Whitty says, "We hope to cultivate a sense of discovery and a feeling of decompression, relaxation, and openness." 13th Street has an amazing bakery utilizing farm fresh fruit and also having one of Canada's best butter tarts. They are located on a 25-acre lot minutes away from the St Catharine's QEW and they specialize in handcrafted Pinot Noir, Gamay Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Sparkling wines. When tasting their products you experience wine as a food product to enhance life, to embrace their baking and their unique onset of art and landscape creating an extraordinary experience about life and making it better.


Recreational Features

What makes 13th street unique is the onsite gallery. What the owners Doug and Karen sought out after was something to stimulate all your senses. Including this in the beautiful gallery where tastings are held can stimulate your mind as well as your senses. The artwork is rotated throughout the year and features art from artists: Michael Adamso, Gary Blundell, Ronald Boaks, David Bolduc, Nicole Katsura, Joseph Drapell, William Ronald, Floyd Elzinga, Sarah Phelps, and Dan Solomon. We are also thrilled to have a collection of permanent sculptures on the property by Karoly Veress, Floyd Elzinga, Dan Soloman, and Ilan Averbuch. !3th street is also capable of hosting private and cooperate events. 13th Street Winery is also a hosts a number of community and festive events including, Grapes of Wrath, a fun 5 km Tough Mudder like obstacle course, Annual Blues and BBQ, Wine and Food tasting seminars, food truck events and even a handmade market all dates dependent on the season.


The 13th Winery is held within a century's old farm hose originating in the Whitty Family. The ground here is on an ancient lake allowing 13th Street to create healthy vines. The Whitty Farm Started in 1908 and has been running ever since. The Winery itself has celebrated 20 years in 2018 opening in 1998 to the public. The first vines to be planted on Whitty Farms were in 1976 and have planted many varieties since then including Gamay Noir, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Pinot Gris and now have amassed more than 40 acres of vineyards in the Creek Shores appellation of Niagara.


Every Vintage produced from 13th Street Winery are made with 85 percent or more of the fruit coming from our own vineyards in the Niagara Peninsula. Every farmer to work within the harvesting process at Whitty Farms and 13th Street employs a sustainable and minimal interventionist approach to viticulture, respecting the ecosystem around them to keep it healthy for generations to come. 13th Street is blessed with 6 different vineyards throughout the Niagara Region allowing them to optimize growth for different grape types for varying wine types. This includes 13th Street Vineyard, June's Vineyard, Whitty Family Vineyard, Market Vineyard, Lakeshore Farm Vineyard, and the Sandstone Vineyard.



Ownership and Management

The 13th Street Winery is run and owned by the Whitty family. The management team consists of Doug Whitty and Karen Whitty. They represent the third generation of Whitty family over 100 years of family operated stewardship. Doug Whitty earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Guelph. From Doug's travels and his learning from the University, he cultivated the family fruit farm with a sustainable mindset. He was also selected as the President of the Niagara Peninsula Fruit and Vegetables Growers Association.

Karen Whitty is the General Manager of 13th Street Winery. She completed her degree in Biochemistry at McMaster University. She first started her career working for the Federal Government with Agriculture Canada. After leaving the Government she implemented and directed many initiatives at 13th Street Winery and came up with many value-added propositions.
