Historical

The Floral Clock has a great deal of history that is connected to the landscape and design of the area. The Floral Clock's design originated from the clock in Edinburgh Scotland, which was designed in 1903. The idea of the Floral Clock was brought to Niagara because it was believed that the design would bring colourful additions to Niagara gardens. The Floral Clock in Niagara is made up of over 20,000 flowers laid out in a unique and colourful design each year. The idea of having an attraction such as the Floral Clock came from Dr. Richard Lankaster Harn; Hydro's general manager and chief engineer. Dr. Harn was very impressed with the beauty and practical value of the clock in Edinburgh, and was dedicated to replicating it in Niagara

Niagara Parks Commissions state "the Centennial Lilac Garden was created in 1960 to commemorate Canada's centennial year. The American Rotary of District 709 helped contribute there funds to help develop this garden for the public to view and admire."
