General Information

Burgoyne Woods Park is one of the most popular areas for winter tobogganing in the St. Catharines area. Located in the neighbourhood of Old Glenridge in south St. Catharines is the 122 acre municipal park complete with open fields, wooded paths, picnic areas, a dog park, and a pavilion. There are barbecue firepits for use by the public, but you must provide wood, kindling and food if necessary. The park features both paved and maintained trails for accessibility and for those wishing to walk, jog or cycle.

Directions

From Toronto:

-QEW Niagara to Hwy 406

-Exit Right (west) on Westchester Avenue

-Left (south) at the second set of lights, at Glenridge Avenue

-Left (east) on Edgedale Road

-Straight through residential area until you enter Burgoyne Woods

From Fort Erie:

-Merge onto the qew via the Toronto ramp

-Take exit 44 for country road 48/Niagara street towards service road

-Merge onto Dieppe road

-Turn left (south/west) at Welland avenue
-Turn left (north) at Geneva street

-Turn right (south/west) at Westchester Crescent

-Take 2nd left (north) onto Glenridge Avenue

-Turn left (east) at Edgedale Road

-Straight through residential area until you enter Burgoyne Woods

Historical

Old Glenridge was a one of the first and most prominent St. Catharines suburban communities, established in the 19th and 20th centuries, featuring historic, Tudor-style houses on large lots (Tudor period architecture, originally developed between 1485-1603, features steeply pitched roofs, tall, narrow doors and windows, small window panes, and large chimneys often topped with decorative chimney pots). You can see some of these architectural features in the stately Tudor homes scattered through the neighbourhood, particularly along the northern reaches of South Drive and along Willowdale Avenue.

Recreational

Burgoyne Woods is intended for active and passive recreation, including hiking and tobogganing. The barbecue firepits are available for families to roast marshmallows and relax after an active winter day.
