The oldest acting lodging house serving food and drink to travelers in Ontario, The Olde Angel Inn Pub hosts live bands every Friday and Saturday evening. A step away from the bar area is a traditional Snug room where visitors can steel away for a quiet word in the relaxing surroundings. Keeping with the flavour of the inn, imported British beer and pub food are sold.
Visitors can stay overnight in the the nearby cottages or the accomodations above the pub. Built in 1789 it is one of the oldest establishments in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It was destroyed during the War of 1812 and rebuilt in 1816.
The Olde Angel is known as the haunted inn; during the War of 1812, a British General was murdered in the cellar. Some say that to appease his ghost, the British Union Jack flag is to be flown above the pub entrance at all times if not, strange things can happen in the basement!
Read fascinating "Letters from the New World. Describing the Heroic History and Fate of the Indian Nations in Upper Canada." as well as stories about the ghost that haunts the inn, at The Old Angel Inn website History page.
