Haynes-Creighton House

General Information

"This gracious Georgian home in Jordan Village was built between 1844, when Isaac Overholt purchased the land, and 1855 when the house and land were sold to John Petty, who was a carriage maker here in Jordan.

The Haines family (also spelled Haynes) purchased the house in 1878. Sarah Haines coach lamps can still be seen on either side of the front door. A kitchen wing was added in the late 1880s.

The wisteria-covered pergola (165 ft long) was built on the south side of the house in the late 1920s by Archibald Haynes, co-founder of one of Niagara's former wineries, Jordan Wines. A Walking Tour of The Village of Jordan

The mounting stone by the pergola also dates from the last quarter of the 1800s. Joe and Pauline Creighton, who purchased the restored the house in 1982, run an antique business in the carriage house at the end of the driveway. With over 30 years of experience in antique collecting, the Creightons are enthusiastic and knowledgeable collectors happy to assist their customers. Antiques range from early Canadiana, Victoriana of the 1800s, turn-of-the-century oak pieces, to quality mahogany and walnut furniture of the 1920s to1940s.
