Gibson Street Bridge

General Information

The original wooden bridge built in the 19th century was replaced with the present footbridge in 1985. Gibson Street was originally the mill path, that led to the Nelles Mills. The saw mill was built first and later the grist mill. The Gibson Street Bridge crosses Forty Mile Creek at the end of Gibson Street which was formerly called the Mill Path.

From Niagara: QEW exit 71 Maple Avenue, Ontario Street, Christie Street (Grimsby) Cross Maple Avenue and Ontario Street Left on Christie Street towards Niagara Escarpment, away from lake Cross Main Street West at lights Next right at Elm Street at lights First left on Gibson Street Drive to end, turn around and park on right side, and walk back to bridge

Hours of Operation

The Grimsby Historical Society, archives and brochures (call for availability), are located at the Carnegie Commons Building. They are available by phone or for a visit on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 am - 12 noon or by appointment.
