General Information

2000 Years on the Edge, a 1999 bronze and stone sculpture by German-Canadian artist Reinhard Reitzenstein, is one of the strangest looking sculptures located on campus. Without knowing the meaning of it, you might be quite confused about what it actually is. The statue consists of two boulders placed on top of each other with what appears to be roots of a tree holding the entire piece of work together.

The sculpture, located in front of the Decew Residence in Jubilee Court, was placed at Brock University to pay respect to the ancient cedar forests that inhabit the cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment. The trees growing in the area are over 2000 years old, and have survived despite their precarious location and the harsh conditions on the exposed rock faces of the Escarpment.

The sculpture serves as a focal point and meeting place for students living on campus for things such as residence events. Students have been known to climb and hang off of it because of its height and its bronze branch protruding out of the boulders.

Surroundings

Decew Residence: Oldest residence on campus. Houses 411 students each year. Traditional Residence. Inside the residence are a cafeteria and a student lounge called "Capitan Johns Lounge".

Jubilee Court: Outdoor sitting area filled with picnic benches and open space for students to do work and hang out. During Niagara's Grape and Wine Festival, Brock hosts the annual Grape Stomp in Jubilee Court.
