The Twelve Trail follows the Twelve Mile Creek, which Laura Secord crossed twice and followed for a good deal of her trek from Queenston to Decew House. The Laura Secord Legacy Trail now follows her approximate route.

The Twelve Trail is a somewhat rough, predominantly earth-surfaced trail that follows the east bank of the Twelve Mile Creek. It runs all the way from St. Paul Crescent in Downtown St. Catharines, under the Grand Trunk Railway and Glenridge Avenue bridges, then meets up with the Niagara Escarpment, rising to meet the Bruce Trail at the northwestern corner of Brock University's escarpment property. The total length of the trail is about 5.5 kilometers.

This trail was completed in 1984 by Brock University students. It was an Environment 2000 Project supported by Environment Canada, Brock University, and various other local, provincial, and national agencies.
