GN 1-11 Stone marker opposite 1702 York Road

You are passing the stone marker where the British troops led by Major-General Roger Hale Sheaffe ascended Queenston Heights, and then moved eastward to confront the Americans during the Battle of Queenston Heights.

Though eroded by time, the stone marker says "Sheaffe's Path to Victory - October 13th, 1812".

Beneath the stone inscription is another engraved plaque which reads, "Erected by The Women's Literary Club of St. Catharines - 1908". This club was founded by Laura Secord biographer Emma Currie on December 3, 1892.

Keep walking along York Road, past the stone marker.
